Peaches Improving
Peaches improved throughout the weekend. This morning we went to the vet and she was amazed at Peaches' progress. Said she thought we dodged a bullet. Peaches passed all her nurologic tests although she was still a tiny bit slow with the left hind leg. The doctor noticed she is a lot more bouncy and puppy-like, almost a changed animal. Peaches is on doctor ordered cage rest which is why she hasn't been able to post, but maybe I'll let her do some this afternoon.
Overall, the vet is happy, Peaches is happy and her owners are happy.

Evening Peaches Update

Peaches is at home on doctor ordered bed rest (in her new small crate) for the weekend with coetaneous injectable hydrate and oral antibiotics. Merrisa doesn't have a problem injecting her, but I saw the needle and had a panic attack while we were being shown how to do it. She has signs of spinal nerve damage, especially with the left hind leg which has an apparent stiffness, however she can walk a bit and is eating and is perky and playful. It's possible she has a pinched nerve, but nothing showed on x-rays - we might have to get a catscan done. She is getting to be a popular girl as everyone that has interacted with her falls in love.
3pm Peaches

The vet is seriously concerned about her lower back and spine. She recommended that she be taken to get a neurological evaluation and possibly an MRI done this weekend. That would be well and good if I had 5 or 6 thousand dollars to throw at this, but we dont. We just mailed in the pet health care stuff earlier this week.
So realistically, given all the circumstantial evidence thus far, and the history, we are going to treat this as a back injury. Peaches will come home with us, but she will have to stay quiet in a small crate, only being let out and carried to do the bathroom chores, since it is very important that she not move around a lot if the spinal trama is going to heal. We will keep a sharp eye on her through the weekend and see how she fares. I'm gonna find some way to make money available so if she needs the MRI or surgery or whatever next week, that it can be done.
Noontime Update
Peaches is doing better - she is for the most part active and alert and being more puppy-like. However there are still periods where she is tired and sleeps. Also the vet noticed everytime Peaches sits, she holds her legs stretched out in front of her, which isnt normal, and when Peaches walks, sometimes she walks normally, and sometimes with her legs held out in a gait, not normal. This is something we noticed since October Crown as well. She no longer runs and bounces.
The vet (www.petfriendssunnyvale.com) did a full nerologic exam and Peaches is having trouble with her hind legs indicating that there is probable spinal cord injury, although x-rays just done don't show anything slipped out of place. She is going to continue monitoring her today. She recommended continued hospitalization with a vet trained in neurology to give her neurologic exams every 4 hours to see if she improves. I dont know what we are going to do

Update

Tonight - 8PM: Peaches is getting antibiotics and continued IV fluids. She is still in some pain but she ate a whole 1/2 bottle of baby food tonight - the emergency vet place in Palo Alto where she is being kept overnight because our regular vet doesn't have overnight facilities said she was very hungry - which is a good sign.. tomorrow morning we'll get up early and transfer her back to her regular vet.
This is a pic of my spouse holding Peaches tonight at the vet. You can see the red bandage where her IV tap was placed.
Puppy Heaven?
This is Peaches' owner.
The vet is now very worried about Peaches. She suspects Peaches has a urinary tract infection but its not staying in her bladder. The tests indicate the infection has gone septic and is spreading throughout her body. Her white cell count is elevated and there is a high amount of white cells in her urine. She is on IV fluids and antibiotics to rehydrate her and flush out the infection, however as it stands now, she only has a 50-50 chance of survival. The next 24 hours are critical. They will continue the antibiotics overnight, however the next couple of hours will tell if this can be turned or not.
Further updates will be posted when we know something further.

Hospital
I got really sick and my vet admitted me to the hospital today for tests and stuff. I've been really feeling blah, and havent been eating or drinking much. So they have to get me hydrated again and whatever else. I'll post an update later. Take care.
